British Soldiers Camp in Flanders: Artic-like conditions are prevalent in Flanders, but at a British camp where the photograph was taken the severe weather was enjoyed in the best sporting spirit by the fighting men. February 1916 Personal collection, #Flanders

Something more uplifting after yday. My mum just opened one of my Gt Grandfather letters from 22/10/1916 and found a preserved flower, still there 105 years later! Why was it there? to break the news he was off to Verdun again DOM Paul Reed Dan Hill Dan Snow

Worth your time to read and remember: forgotten poet Joseph Seamon Cotter, Jr., a “forerunner of the African American cultural renaissance of the 1920s,” died 3 Feb. 1920. His 1918 poem against prejudice and oppression: behindtheirlines.blogspot.com/2017/09/their-… #poetry #BlackHistoryMonth

All masterminded by Corinne Viglietta and the real celeb was Noelle Cammon! Not just anybody can get 500 teachers to create the conversation in which Maya Angelou talks back hard to Shakespeare. Bliss! Folger Education FolgerED

We love The Guardian's choice of Edward Thomas's "The Owl" as its poem of the week! Students will love Poetry Foundation and Manual Cinema's magnificent adaptation of the poem. The Guardian Poetry Foundation Manual Cinema poetryfoundation.org/video/148314/t…

After bombing a lesson with Edward Thomas's "In Memoriam (Easter, 1915)," we're rethinking the way we teach this poem by digging back into our Folger Education toolkit to do it better next time! Start w/ the WORDS and get OUT of the way! #TSI2018 #edwardthomas

Trending this week is the MyHeritage photo animator app. The site allows you to upload a portrait of an ancestor to see how they might come alive through a little animation. Results can be a little emotional and surreal. Below, we animated the striking portrait of Vernon Coffey.

The tornado warning today was a test but what often wasn't a test alarm in #WW1 were the awful crank gas klaxons that sounded off at first sign of gas attacks. Our Curator demonstrated its grinding noise capabilities once and it was unpleasant. See our gas alarm in Exhibit Hall.
