Too many children battling with anxiety and school refusal. We need to give children the tools to manage their mental health from a young age. My story of anxiety and school refusal. earlyyearsactually.wordpress.com/2023/01/26/anx…

This afternoon was tricky. Although we had fewer children than the morning it was like all the children that were finding things challenging were together. So we headed to the soft play room, then played outside, sang some songs had a snack. Didn’t bother with phonics et al. 🤷🏼‍♀️

What’s your take on “higher standards and better-supported staff”? I’m thinking positively, hoping it means better training opportunities, more funding esp. for SEND and generally being treated as equal to other year groups perhaps? #hopeful #EarlyChildhood #EarlyYears

School ready - I get in Early Years we don’t like this term but ignoring it being about school I do think I spend more time on toileting, Sp+Lang, dressing etc than perhaps 5-10yrs ago. Just me? What’s the change? tes.com/magazine/news/…

How can a school say they can’t support a child with an ASD diagnosis in the EYs because they’ve never had one before and they don’t think support can begin until they “start school”? This school enforces phonics, numeracy and “topic” carpet sessions daily! In Nursery! 😱😱

Gillas Lane is a wonderful school and I was proud to visit. Every child in every corner of our country deserves a great local state school. And that is what the next Labour government will deliver.

When I say “thank you” to one of the 3yr olds in my setting and they reply “you’re welcome” is one of my favourite things. #FridayThoughts

The government has made the EY a sector once seen across the world as progressive is now becoming a system of two tiers, those that just do the care ‘pre reception’ and those that do the education, reception. What has happened to our well constructed EYs? That’s my tweet.

New Early Years funding rates were revealed for Suffolk today. £4.60 is what we get for an hour to care for your 3/4 yr old. £4.60. People pay more for doggy daycare. #EarlyYears
