#RedFlagWarning now in effect for southern #SantaBarbara County and most mountains thru Sat. The environment is ripe for any new fires to grow fast and behave erratically. Avoid using anything that can spark a fire. Be SET to evacuate if you live in a high fire risk area. #cawx

Big change in today's ECMWF seasonal model forecast for ENSO: La Niña is back on! The ECMWF SEAS5 has been one of the most reluctant models to develop La Niña, but suddenly it has latched onto something. Will be interesting to see if the NMME and Copernicus models support this.

I am running out of words to describe how absurd August 2024 was in Svalbard. Reaching an average temperature of 11°C in August would have been unimaginable just a few years ago. This is totally bonkers.

Added fire danger risk re: possible thunderstorms esp. Sierra / NE CA and NW CA mountains. Note the NorCal ops outlook to Saturday. Thanks to the latest hot days/warm nights period, fuels too will be trending drier vs. a week ago (1/2) #CAwx 9/5/2024

Wildfires burning in eastern Lane & Douglas counties have become quite active today & are producing large smoke plumes, especially the 208 Fire. This smoke is blowing northward over the Cascades. Smoke is also producing hazy conditions over the Willamette Valley & Portland metro.

DT LA reached 102 today, the current forecast has today kicking off a 4 to 5-day long stretch of highs of at least 100 degrees. Since the record began (1877), the longest stretch of 100 or greater T was 8 days long in 1955. If we see 5 days, it will tie the 3rd longest stretch.
