I love connecting my students to nature using the "head, heart and hand" model; the cognitive domain (head) to critical reflection, the affective domain (heart) to relational knowing and the psychomotor domain (hands) to engagement. Rocky View Schools École Manachaban
WILD 2022-23's first camp was a great success! I am looking forward to a fun year of learning with this amazing group. Rocky View Schools École Manachaban #getoutside #rvsed
These kids cooked themselves some amazing food at camp-some even dehydrated their chili for dinner and eggs for breakfast! Most popular meal was "taco in a bag". Rocky View Schools École Manachaban #experientiallearning
Started our canoe trip and truth and reconciliation week at Dry Island Buffalo Jump, learning about the Cree ancestors and how they hunted Buffalo to provide for their people. Amazing having Rick Gaudio meeting us there and giving the Rocky View Schools land acknowledgment. École Manachaban
Our WILD canoe camp was a huge success. These amazing students learned so much about; themselves, their classmates, water and even a little palaeontology. The best classroom is the outdoor classroom. Rocky View Schools École Manachaban
“Exercise is the single most powerful tool you have to optimize your brain function ... the more fit you are, the more resilient your brain becomes and the better it functions both cognitively and psychologically.” John Ratey Eric Hagerman
Today was our second annual WILD walk from École Manachaban to Big Hill Springs Provincial Park. What a 'bluetiful' day to learn about the history of this land. SaveBigHillSpringsPark Rocky View Schools #placebasedlearning
We braved the cold temperature and headed to Pocaterra for our first cross country ski day today. #dressfortheweather #xcskiingisfun Rocky View Schools École Manachaban
Some of the important teachings we try to instil in the WILD program is that we are not stewards of the land, we are part of it. We need to rebuild relationships to the lands and the waters. #protectrespectandnurture #getoutside École Manachaban Rocky View Schools
The WILD classes are back from another incredible winter camp. In one of our debriefs we spoke about gratitude and gifts from nature, and how important it is to reflect on these gifts they experience and to re-examine their relationship to nature. Rocky View Schools #landbasedlearning
So thankful to get these WILD kids climbing! What an incredible morning! They all raved about the trust, teamwork, and problem solving involved in this activity! They rocked 😀.École Manachaban Rocky View Schools #experientiallearning
WILD is celebrating 10 years and I couldn't have a better group of students to celebrate with! Camp #1 was amazing! This was our classroom this week. #takeitoutside #rvsed École Manachaban Rocky View Schools
