It's hard to overstate the stupidity of the NDP's approach to climate change. They genuinely think that if they only penalise the bad guys (ie, EVIL CORPORATIONS), those costs will not be passed on to consumers, so why bother compensating them?

Summer's over and Halifax's municipal election is right around the corner. A new episode of The Grand Parade podcast is out and I talk with the new owner of Atlantic News about how to interview municipal candidates ahead of the #HFXvotes2024 election. open.spotify.com/episode/76momR…

HOT TAKE: New housing added within the catchment areas of under-capacity public schools should not have to pay development charges for the construction of new public schools.

Here’s 30 minutes of rush hour on a popular Montreal bike route. Watch how this bike lane BANNED CARS! And by “banned cars” I mean “provided a safe alternative to driving while still allowing cars to use the street”. youtube.com/watch?v=3F_B0H…

A city that bases its identity around the donair has no right denying refugees and immigrants a place to feel safe and at home

Auckland, New Zealand’s broad based upzoning increased housing construction, improved housing affordability, and increased construction employment—and now we have some preliminary evidence it increased construction productivity too!

cbc.ca/news/politics/… A new story that is almost a parody of everything that goes wrong in federal procurement . I wish this was an isolated case.

Not liking this framing. Saying shrinking household size is a "contributor to the housing affordability crisis" is essentially blaming housing problems on the increased lifespan of older people. (Plus it reverses causality, household formation is downstream of housing pressures.)

I do think it's worth emphasizing that schools are getting bomb threats because of this. A entire group of people are being threatened with violence due to rumour and bigfoot-style clips.
