Let's have a serious conversation about the phrase "unskilled labor". Economists have used that phrase for as long as I've studied economics. At some point I became inured to it falsely thinking it's no judgment, just trying to classify workers. That's wrong. It's horrible. 🧵

I do think it’s weird that it’s impossible to get to the 5th largest city in North America (Toronto) to any US city by rail. You have to get off the train and take a taxi or bus across the border to the other country’s train station.

This is so unbelievably discouraging as a first-year PhD student 🙁

Even if everyone is 100% honest and this is all file drawer bias, it's still awful to *feel* like your career hinges on a few robustness checks Hard to believe everyone resists such strong incentives. Does that mean academia selects for people w/ the least scientific integrity?
