One of my absolute favourites, such a joyous little plant for late spring. Spring Vetch Vicia lathyroides. Tiny mauve jewels in coastal turf. Hayling Island, Hampshire. BSBI: Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland

I'm amazed I can spot bugs so easily when my eyesight is actually dreadful.

Can I read unaided? No. Can I spot a camouflaged plume moth from the corner of my eye despite walking at speed? Of course.

When I was at school the Tory Government insisted that our education system wasn't secular and should contain regular Christian worship.

I am absolutely appalled by this proposal. Croydon Council should be conserving and preserving precious and valuable habitat like this, not selling it off. Scott Roche Jason Perry - Mayor of Croydon

Always been a bit suspicious of the distribution of Sand Leek for a native plant; here it is compared to the distribution of places ending in 'thwaite' or with 'kirk' in the name, courtesy of the new British Placename Mapper (placenames.rtwilson.com) by Robin Wilson 1/2

Also walked past a large patch of Bee Orchid rosettes on a traffic island in the middle of Middlesbrough. 25 years ago we were thrilled to see just one (1) sad and wizened plant in M'bro; now we have this!

Sweet Cicely just starting to flower by the River Swale near Richmond
Seems to have spread pretty quickly given it's got such a chonky seed; first recorded in the wild in 1712 according to plantatlas2020.org/atlas/2cd4p9h.โ€ฆ

If you are in the North, now is a good time to see where the Wych Elm trees are in a wood - they are the ones that look lime green with masses of developing seeds (which taste of uncooked pastry).

Another interesting thing I saw today were these Lime (Tilia sp.) seedlings growing in a park lawn in Richmond (N. Yorks) - usually too cold up north for ripe Lime seeds so maybe this is a sign of things to come.

Saw lots of Alder Leaf Beetle last week and managed to do an in-focus photo! They were below the Alder trees next to the River Swale, at the edge of an interesting grassland

Wonderful to chat with Rebecca Cornwell today about Shetland's rare plants, and the shadows that the passage of time and the hand of man have cast upon them.

Hannah Bourne-Taylor This is just 15 minutes walk from me in Ealing at WarrenFarmNatureReserve now, hopefully, saved from being buried under football pitches and promised by EalingCouncil to be designated a local nature reserve.

Border walls donโ€™t belong in wildlife refuges. Pronghorn like these have migrated freely across the invisible line thatโ€™s now called the U.S.-Mexico border for millennia.

Now, their habitat is severed in two.

This video from the Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge in AZ.

Sadly, yet another compromised orchid habitat. This is a well known White Helleborine site Tesco in Winchester. Car park โ€˜improvementsโ€™ have seriously damaged the area, although some hardy individuals (of a species in serious decline) are pushing up through the new bark mulch ๐Ÿ˜ข
