I spoke in the House of Lords on the imposition of an unprecedented #EducationTax. It is disgraceful not to have undertaken a full impact assessment before driving this forward @keirstatrmer & Bridget Phillipson. davidalton.net/2024/09/05/imp…

BBC Newsnight I have not watched Newsnight for several years. For some reason I decided to watch this discussion amongst friends this evening. It was breathtaking and really highlighted the difference between wealth and money. A roomful of intellectuals who between them have probably never

There are 10,000 foreign nationals lounging in England and Wales' prisons, and instead of kicking them out, you're footing the bill. Meanwhile, Labour's bright idea is to ship off prisoners to Estonia to solve the capacity crisis. How about we do the obvious thing: send these

This morning, I found a great big black hole in my finances. So, I've just given the cleaner, the cook and the butler 15 % pay rises, ordered a new Range Rover, ripped out my perfectly good boiler and installed a heat pump, and turfed my Mum out on the street. Vote Labour😊

11 members of Keir Starmer's Cabinet claimed taxpayer-funded expenses to pay for energy bills in their second homes - with expenses rising by 75% over three years. And meanwhile, the Labour government stopped millions of pensioners from receiving their winter fuel allowance.

With Primark boss George Weston revealing his company lost more in shoplifting than the £70million it paid in business rates, I wonder if Starmer could be persuaded to show as much interest in this exploding crime as he showed in Facebook posts by whack jobs.

Ed Miliband says Labour will honour pledge of £11.6bn in overseas climate aid. This is on top of foreign aid. The UK does have money but Labour choose to spend our cash abroad on total nonsense whilst Brits suffer rt@davidjobrexit theguardian.com/environment/ar…

For the government to punish millions of pensioners by removing their winter fuel allowance (saving £1.6bn) but then spaffing away £11.6bn on overseas climate aid is grotesque. The welfare of pensioners should always come before the transfer of wealth to net zero corporations.

Surely Robert Jenrick is committing to migration caps because that is what the public wants? Which is why so many MPs backed him. He was Immigration minister and we should trust him it is possible to do - he was honourable enough to resign over measures that wouldn’t work. Is

Paul Wojtusciszyn Camilla Tominey They don’t hike the fees a whopping 20% in one year for starters. Nothing wrong with state schools if you can get the one you want, it caters for your child’s needs, sometimes SE needs, and wraparound care. Often the state can’t provide and that’s where private schools come in.

Paul Wojtusciszyn Camilla Tominey 2010 is 14 years ago! Can’t you do maths? 20% in one year plus the normal fee increase takes it to around 27%! It’s simply not justifiable for some parents, particularly those on lower incomes. Again, I refer you to my previous reply on state schools. What if your child has SEN?

Gold-plated public sector pensions cost every household £173,000. The value of pensions already guranteed to workers including doctors, soldiers, civil servants and teachers has reached close to £5 trillion, projections suggest. This leaves every household with a bill of
