I think Intel nailed the pricing for ARC 770. Sure it’s not going to come close to competing with a 4090 in perf, but it also cost a fifth the price, and the market for $300-ish cards is likely an order of magnitude larger than the market for >$1500-ish cards.

don't usually see animation (especially as stylized as this) used for something as mundane as romance tbh? I think that's what makes this exciting to me, really interested in it

There’s a thread on the orange website about imagining what we could do if computers were magically 1000x faster, and the first thing that popped in my head is that I could finally run three simultaneous Slack tabs in Chrome instead of two.

Every once in a while I see an idea that is so good that I get irrationally mad that I didn't think up of that idea myself.

Trombone Champ is one of those ideas.

Getting this one over the finish line in the past few months has made for some of the most challenging stuff I've worked on in a long time, but the result is well worth it- the volumetrics in this movie are jaw-dropping.

Yining Karl Li They said that Shader Execution Reordering was “as significant as OOOe was for CPUs”, not that it was actually OOOe. 🙂

4090/4080 and Lovelace are of course very exciting and interesting, but those prices and power requirements are yikes.

Most interesting GTC announcement for me though is the Jetson Orin Nano, because I am a sucker for weird little ARM single-board computers.

For me the biggest surprise with NVIDIA's new Lovelace architecture is out-of-order execution in the SMs. The conventional wisdom since the dawn of time for GPUs has been that OOO is a necessary exclusion due to the transistor budget required.

The RacerX demo is crazy impressive (especially the bit with the glowsticks). HW RT: we're definitely living in the future.

Why does Friday Night Baseball on Apple TV+ keep cutting away from… uh… the baseball game? Surely the point is to watch the baseball game, but they keep on cutting to like random interviews and random other things while things happen in the game offscreen.

I went against every instinct I usually have and bought a bright international orange phone case this time around instead of a black one.

This color is so delightful to look at; I should have started getting colorful things way earlier.

Back in 2011 when I was an intern at Pixar, one of the other interns was this quiet guy named Evan who made cool WebGL demos. He struck me as crazy smart and I thought he was a shoo-in for a full time Pixar gig, but he never went back.

Anyways, congrats to the whole Figma team!
