Hourly GOES-East infrared imagery from 16 Aug to 1 Sep for 2022 (top) & 2024 (bottom). August 2022 also had less Atlantic tropical activity than anticipated. In both cases, there's evidence of higher-latitude air being pushed toward the tropics, inhibiting convection in the MDR.
