Some things to provide patients before they leave your office: have them put the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in their phone, give them the NowMattersNow.org website, address guns & preferred method of suicide.
Ask patients, “what are reasons you would not die by suicide today?” Protective factors include children, pets, family, job, religion, etc. #SuicidePrevention
Think about two populations at risk for suicide: Newly identified patients AND patients following up for routine primary care. What does that look like? #prevention #suicideprevention
Consider how many patients in your practice are at risk for suicide. Are you adding ICD10 codes to your problem list? #SuicidePrevention #MentalHealthAwareness
