Barrow to Roa Island (morning 24.04.24) 6 singing Lesser Whitethroat, 27 Ringed Plover, 17 Whimbrel, 3 Little Tern, 2 Sandwich Terns, 9 Wheatear, 20 Pale-bellied Brent and the plastic Emperor Goose with c.50 others species on a very sunny morning…. Cumbria Bird Club
x3 BBS survey Dyson Farming in Gloucestershire: traditional farmland, mature hedgerows, scattered mature trees & connected woodlands. Ongoing woodland restoration looking good with wildflower glades beginning to establish & new hedgerows will show +ve results in future surveys.
x3 BBS survey Dyson Farming in Oxfordshire; 20 species in 1 SQ including 10 singing Corn Bunting, 40 Skylark and a VERY early/smart Male Whinchat. This 900m 'beetle bank' feature is now 2 year old and supported x4 breeding species BOCC RED and not forgetting 2km of new hedgerow😍
Farmland BBS for Dyson Farming at Roxholme, Lincs (5th year monitoring this 1km SQ); just 16 species in this SQ but packed with BOCC RED species including 9 singing Corn Buntings, 25 Linnets, 48 (!) singing Skylarks, Grey Partridge, Yellowhammer and 2 Schedule 1 breeding species.
Farmland BBS (Breeding Bird Surveys) for Dyson Farming at Cranwell, Lincs (the 5th year of monitoring this 1km SQ); with Grey Partridge, 2 pair of Curlew, 29 Linnet, 13 Meadow Pipit and 38 Skylarks
First farmland BBS of the year with walkover surveys Dyson Farming Bonby Carrs, lots of water with lapwing, redshank and snipe all recorded. Good numbers of Brown Hare and Roe Deer. Also, a few winter species still hanging on with c.10 Wigeon and 30+ Fieldfare still present...
First time in Lincolnshire this YEAR (!) and nice to ‘find’ a Bonaparte's Gull at RSPB Frampton Marsh 🌍 also 78 species including Lesser Yellowlegs and BWStilt…. What a great site. Well done team RSPB! 👍
Finally finished hanging up ALL the new Pied Flycatchers boxes at Hawkshead, Cumbria (thanks CJ Wildlife Bird Foods). Just shy of 100 boxes… with the 1st signs of Spring on the woodland floor, we just need to wait for the summer migrants to return….I hope they approve 🤞
Dropped into RSPB Leighton Moss today, to admire the pair of Lesser Scaup, also saw the Ring-necked Duck while Bitterns boomed literally everywhere and numerous Cetti’s sang. Fabulous! Well done team RSPB!
