I wonder what Israel's next move is, militarily, I mean. The limited ground operation near Rafah is over. Now they got 3 brigades parked there; that's a big force. What to do with them? Will Israel start evacuating Gazans to signal they're coming into Rafah to pressure Hamas?🤔

When Israel occupied the West Bank & Gaza Strip in 1967, then Defence Minister Dayan ordered all units to remove Israeli flags so as not to humiliate the Palestinians. It seems that in the current Gaza war revenge & humiliating the Pales is an integral part of the Israeli agenda.

I was asked a few times whether Israel would move deep into Rafah. In normal circumstances, I would have said no—that the probability of that is low. But circumstances aren't 'normal.' Netanyahu's number one priority is to survive politically. For that, he needs war to continue.

As a War Studies teacher, I'm interested not only in the politics of the Israel/Gaza/Hezbollah/Iran war but also in how it is conducted. A BIG change is the introduction of UAVs. In the future soldiers will use remote controls to send thousands of them into the enemy's territory.

Israeli attack in Lebanon. I'm pretty sure that this is white phosphorus which is restricted under international humanitarian law. It must never be fired at or in close proximity to a populated civilian area or civilian infrastructure. Clearly, the Israelis break the law.

Since 7 October, the US has shipped to Israel 40,000 tons of weapons. To deliver, airplanes had to land 370 times in Israel, and ships had to dock 65 times. Biden now suspends the delivery of 1800 1-ton bombs and 1700 225-kg bombs. Palestinian lives in Rafah will be saved.

It took him some time to do the right thing, but Biden finally did it. He said to the CNN that if Israel invades Rafah, the U.S. will stop supplying it with artillery shells, bombs for fighter jets & other offensive weapons. That's a red card to Israel.

Can Israel win the Gaza War? No, it can't. Netanyau's dream of going to Rafah to destroy the last 4 Hamas battalions is a trick to stay in power for another 4 months. So what's for Netanyahu? If Israel assassinates Sinwar then the salesman Netanyahu will sell it as a 'victory.'

Biden's dramatic suspension of weapon shipment to Israel is correct. Soon deliveries will be resumed with a clause added to contract, 'not to use in Rafah'. US should also say 'not to use in Beirut' lest in war with Lebanon Israel uses, again, to flatten Dahiya as it did in 2006

I was asked what could modify Israeli military behaviour in Gaza, the West Bank & elsewhere. Well, words won't do the trick, but deeds will 1. A limitation on the delivery of weapons. Defensive weapons - yes; offensive weapons - limit. 2 The threat of ICC arrest warrants.

Best news of the day. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin confirmed that, 'We have assessed the situation, we have paused one shipment of high payload munitions to Israel'. This move by the Biden administration is the only way to stop Netanyahu from going into Rafah. Chapeau!

Many reporters on the war in Gaza are too lazy to look at the map and see that the Rafah crossing, which the IDF seized, is 3 km from Rafah itself; a military operation there doesn't mean that Israel has invaded Rafah. Not the same!
