Britain’s railways are broken.

Cancellations have soared to record levels, fares have risen almost twice as fast as wages, and taxpayers are paying through the teeth to prop up a failing system.

Labour will deliver a publicly owned railway that puts the passenger first.

Our statement on the sad death of Frank Field:

Frank was a steadfast, highly successful and diligent campaigner against child poverty. It is largely down to Frank that we have child benefit today – a truly towering achievement.

Very sad news. Always supportive of me as his Parliamentary neighbour, brimming with ideas to make society better - a great champion of his Birkenhead constituents: RIP Frank

Frank Field cared deeply about people and refused to be bound by the status quo. That drove his outstanding work campaigning against poverty and for Birkenhead. He taught me to be careful and reasonable when arguing for what I believe in and never to give up.

I’ll miss him.

Very sad news. Frank served the people of Birkenhead for 40 years. Everyone in the Wirral will be thinking of his life and contribution. He was indeed unique and a very special person to work with. His work will have an impact for many years to come. Thinking of his loved ones.

🌹 60,000 jobs
🌹 35,000 training courses funded each year
🌹 30,000 apprenticeships
🌹 30,000 homes

✅ I'm proud of the progress we've made in the last 7 years - but it's just the start.

🗳️ Vote The Labour Party on 2 May and, together, we'll take back our future from Westminster.

Happy St George's Day - and happy Shakespeare's day.

Here's one of my favourites: act 2, scene 4 from Twelfth Night as canny and clever Viola (disguised as a man) speaks to Orsino about love ❤️

What's your favourite Shakespeare?

For me patriotism is about more than symbols and sentiment; it’s a driving value.

My mission-driven government will make sure opportunity is determined by talent and ambition, not geography or background.

The crisis in Sudan due to the generals' year-long war is an utter catastrophe. We must not avert our gaze. Today I used an urgent question in Parliament to focus the Govt's attention on the plight of the Sudanese people. youtu.be/3Fn0nYjDqqk

Lord Des Browne's amdt to the Rwanda Bill will exempt those who served with our Armed Forces from being sent to Rwanda.

The Afghans who served shoulder to shoulder with us deserve our respect and gratitude.

Don't just take my word for it👇🏼

Cuts to the NHS? Cuts to state pensions? Tax rises?

The Prime Minister needs to tell us which one it will be to fund his £46 billion unfunded promise.

The British public deserve to know.

After leaving the NHS on its knees and making Britain sicker, the Tories have decided to...blame the doctors.

This country is crying out for a general election.

How do we help people back to work? Tackle the NHS waits, improve the health of the nation, and change job centres so that there is real help to work.
