⚠️New paper at Nature Human Behaviour⚠️

Can posed smiles make people feel happier?

In a global adversarial collaboration, we found overwhelming support for this controversial hypothesis.

But we couldnt resolve one thing: concerns about a popular pen-in-mouth smiling task.

One of the best paper I've seen about the association between social media use and mental health. The authors took advantage of the facebook rollout in colleges (early 2000) showing that the rollout led to reduction in mental health.

Loneliness is one of the biggest problems in the US. It's caused by the way cities are designed, by the size of houses relative to public spaces, by cultural norms of eating in front of a computer and over work, by the feeling that digital media can provide an alternative.

Are you interested in applying deep learning (DL) models to the decoding of mental states (e.g., anger or joy) from brain activity?

In our new Trends in Cognitive Sciences review, Russ Poldrack, hazyresearch, and I discuss the interpretation of mental state decoding with DL models.

📉New blog!📈. On forecasting with autoregressive bayesian structural timeseries with PyMC Developers. The idea was just to show how to run a model fit and predict step for increasingly complex AR models.
Thanks too to Juan Camilo Orduz for a neat plotting trick!

Fascinating meta-analysis of studies of loss aversion by Brown, Imai, Vieider, & Colin Camerer osf.io/preprints/meta… Looks like 2 is not a bad rule of thumb after all. Wide ranging tests in the paper on estimates from 607 studies - examining study quality, publication bias etc.,
