Turnout on tonight's count is 77.1%. More postals to be added and a few extra pre-polls and special hospital votes to come which means final turnout could yet scrape above 80%.

Turnout for the Cook by-election will be about 80% which is normal for a by-election skipped by one of the major parties. Lack of serious campaigning tends to lower public knowledge of the event.

This is inconsequential with other news around but the Liberal Party has won the Cook by-election. Results will be updated at the link below if you are interested. I won't take up further space on twitter tonight. abc.net.au/news/elections…

Postal and pre-poll numbers for the Cook by-election finish only slightly down on the 2022 election. It seems everyone was waiting for the final day before pre-polling. abc.net.au/news/elections…

Pre-poll voting for the Cook by-election still lags the 2022 election. Postals also down so turnout will depend on how many voters turn up to vote on Saturday. With no Labor candidate the contest has been low profile. abc.net.au/news/elections…

One last distribution in Braddon. 1,106 surplus of Miriam Beswick (JLN) to be distributed as it is larger than Garland's 948 vote lead over Simpson (LIB), but there is no way these votes can change the result. Garland elected to the 7th Braddon seat. antonygreen.com.au/2024-tasmanian…

Garland trailed by 267 before the exclusion of the final Greens candidate but now is 943 votes ahead of 4th Liberal Giovanna Simpson with not enough votes left to change the result.

Craig Garland pass the fourth Liberal in Braddon to win the election's last undecided seat. Final election result is Liberal 14, Labor 10, Greens 5, Jaqui Lambie Network 3, Independents 3.

Exclusion of Broad's surplus cuts the Liberal lead to 267 votes. It also left Beswick (JLN) short of quota so Briggs (GRN) is the next out and looks set to elect Garland (IND) over Simpson (LIB) and leave the Liberal Party with only 14 seats.

The leakage of JLN votes out of the ticket boosted Garland and simplified the count. There will be no JLN surplus distribution, Labor's 209 vote surplus will go next, then Briggs (GRN) will be distributed and determine if Garland wins. antonygreen.com.au/2024-tasmanian…

The exclusion of the second JLN candidate favours Garland and cuts the Liberal lead from 391 votes to 279. antonygreen.com.au/2024-tasmanian…
