The pioneer asks: What if exploration and discovery were about understanding unfamiliar spaces rather than conquering or taking ownership of them? What if a pioneer was someone who tried to merge with nature through empathy and care rather than seeking to dominate?

Pioneer is a series of 22 silver gelatin prints tipped-in to a hand made artist’s book. These photographs were originally made as pinhole paper negatives. Each exposure typically lasted several minutes. The views are of the landscape of Ravenscraig and a pioneer figure exploring.
