1/3 Ragwort is a much maligned plant yet it is really important to a whole range of insects who benefit from its nectar and pollen and for other insects it provides food for their early stages. Butterfly Conservation 🦋

Nothing like someone calling you lazy + lecturing you on not killing all the 'pests' on your bee hotel (which is a colony 100+ strong BTW) - I politely explained its a wildlife habitat not a bee farm...

My adoring worldwide minion-adjacent community. It. Is. Time. Within the next few hours I shall open, spreading my pungency far and wide to attract pollinators! Well... mostly horticulturists and botanists if I'm honest but those are acceptable substitutes.

But the really important question is, which #CarrionBeetles will visit Titan Arum Edinburgh this time?! We had Nicrophorus investigator in 2017 and Necrodes littoralis in 2019. Come on old friend - spread that STINK! 👃🏻💀#CarrionClub

WHAT A BEETLE!! Julodis sp. An absolute unit of a beetle. I didn't get as long as i'd have liked with this beauty before it disappeared into the tall grass. The metallic blues and purples really popped in the sun! An encounter I'll never forget.

We often say humans are destroying species before they're even discovered! Well, it seems the undiscovered species are even more vulnerable than the known ones! Nice write up by Emma Caton . Natural History Museum Science Natural History Museum nhm.ac.uk/discover/news/…

If anyone tells you species-rich hay meadows can’t be productive, show them this. Nine years into our restoration and we’ve had a record hay cut - 519 small bales from 3 acres (equivalent to about 43 big round bales) 🧵

We are disappointed to learn of the decision to reallocate £5 million from Nature Restoration Fund. It's essential for Scotland to be part of the solution when tackling the twin nature and climate crises. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Predators routinely slaughtered so that rich toffs can spend over £10k for a day of sipping prosecco while blasting away at the hundreds of grouse that are driven right past them. Hardly sport. There is no place for this shite in a crowded world suffering a biodiversity crisis.
