Designers should be led by the natural materials locally available to them and said that in some instances, swapping stone walls for hedgerows could encourage biodiversity when creating area boundaries.dezeen.com/2023/06/26/bri…

“Emissions from transport have remained stubbornly high as the government has “made a political choice” to allow an increase in road traffic, instead of encouraging people on to public transport.”

Let that sink in. Our current failure is a CHOICE.

And here we have it -- the global 2 meter temperature anomalies, through today, with 2023 in red.

What's happening right now with global temperatures leaves me speechless (but not numberless).

4.81 sigma. 1-in-1,300,000.

You go.

School strike week 251. Today, I graduate from school, which means I’ll no longer be able to school strike for the climate. This is then the last school strike for me, so I guess I have to write something on this day.

We love our students! They organised their own exhibition at Saan in the Northern Quarter. Lovely work. Great opening event last night.

Often I've seen materials (rafters etc) reused in historic buildings and been asked why they would that.

Consider the effort needed to delivery materials in the past. We take deliveries for granted these days.

Brilliant lecture by
Barnabas Calder
on materials and energy. Favourite quote: 'Yasmeen Lari teaches people how to fish, where others (Foster) drop fish fingers from 20,000m.' Catch on Architects Climate Action Network Youtube channel soon. youtube.com/playlist?list=…

Me on the carbon and pollution price we pay for trying to avoid cyclical maintenance. Work in progress, inspired by something Phineas Harper raised in a tweet long ago. As Debbie says, the questions were fantastic - if you skip anything, make it the talk.

Barnabas Calder's Architecture: From Prehistory to Climate Emergency has been among the most inspiring pieces of literature I've ever laid my eyes on. Do yourself a favour and have a listen to his brilliant talk Unnatural Materials at Architects Climate Action Network.

Why ideas of ‘planetary boundaries’ must uphold

'If seven of the eight thresholds have been crossed, what does that mean for our still-feeble efforts to move to a more path?'

We would have to mine double the amount of copper we have in the history of civilisation, in the next 20 years to meet net zero targets, the penny will drop right, that this is TOTAL REIMAGINATION time.
