Today I welcomed Foreign Minister of #CostaRica Arnoldo Andre Tinoco to Vienna, in the run-up to the #AWS2024Vienna conference on autonomous weapons systems.

We focused on our shared priority of disarmament but also on trade affairs and regional developments. 🇦🇹🤝🇨🇷

The International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism (IIIM) for Syria was discussed in the annual debate of the 🇺🇳 General Assembly today. 🇦🇹 fully supports the IIIM, including through a voluntary contribution, as it significantly enhances ongoing justice processes.

#UNSCopendebate on the links between prevention of conflict-related sexual violence and arms control: 🇦🇹 emphasizes the need for a gender-responsive perspective on disarmament and support for the fight on impunity!

Austria remains a strong supporter of the Veto Initiative. Today, Austria was honoured to join a statement by Liechtenstein underlining how this initiative has empowered the General Assembly.

Day 3 of #YouthForum speaking on youth participation on national & international level: The voices of young people must be heard! For that reason, 🇦🇹 decided in 2007 - as one of the first 🇪🇺 countries to lower the voting age to 16. It was certainly the right step to take.
