An impressive olive tree near Tarvin in Cheshire, with an equally impressive colony of the moss Nogopterium gracile. The tree has been in place for at least 3 years but most likely Nogopterium was already on it when imported from northern Italy. BBSBryology

At the Chelsea Flower Show today, visiting what I call 'The Leucobryum Garden'. Looks lovely, but I didn't have the opportunity to enquire about the species or the sustainability 🤔

An unexpected find: the scarce moss Lewinskia speciosa on an apple tree in Wolverhampton a few days ago.

Not uncommon in the north, but always a joy to come across the cute little immersed capsules of Diphyscium foliosum, as I did yesterday in a rather wet Borrowdale, home to a newly created NNR. This area of the Lake District is especially rich in 'temperate rainforest' woodland.

Just enjoyed taking part in an absolutely amazing wee webinar on oceanic liverwort communities in Ireland, Scotland, Norway & Sweden with great attendance & a very engaged audience. So much knowledge-sharing, so much more to understand about Scotland's oceanic ecosystems!

Very interesting webinar on hepatic mat communities this evening with great contributions from Rory Hodd and Gus Routledge on the Scottish and Irish perspective. Really highlights our gaps in knowledge as well as shared interests 👏 . Hope to have a link for the recording.

Star-headed Liverwort (Marchantia polymorpha subsp. polymorpha) recorded today, growing as part of a neat 'understory' community in a reedbed in the Mersey Valley. A plant of semi-/natural, aquatic habitats, and not so common as subsp. ruderalis, so was nice to see.
