Lovely spring walk in one of my local woods on the Wadhurst Clay: Orchis mascula (Early-purple Orchid); Ranunculus auricomus (Goldilocks Buttercup); Lamiastrum galeobdolon (Yellow Archangel) amid Hyacinthoides non-scripta (Bluebell)

Common Milkwort - Polygala vulgaris - just starting to show in this part of Sussex. We mostly get beautiful but similar blues, over at Castle Hill the variety gets much more exciting. I suppose it is the Brighton influence. Sussex Wildlife Trust πŸ¦” Sussex Botanical Recording Society

Herb Paris (Paris quadrifolia) found growing in ancient woodland in East Sussex today; despite being poisonous, the plant has been used as a medicinal herb to treat wounds and abscesses.

A qu! Off to Winchelsea to see Polypodium cambricum again (March RPR target) & get spore sample as noted Sussex Botanical Recording Society Plant Atlas lists a P. x font-queri there. Does this hybrid have no spores, deformed spores. Not sure what I'd be looking for! Thanx Sylvatica Brad Scott

Dumortiera hirsuta (Fairlight Glen). Polypodium cambricum, Polypodium sp. prob vulagare & Umbilicus rupestris growing epiphytically on Fraxinus excelsior & abundantly on old walls (Winchelsea). More like Devon than East Sussex! BSBI: Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland Sussex Botanical Recording Society BBSBryology Sylvatica

In a walk through the Babylon Down woods, Willingdon, Eastbourne, sad to see many dead Fraxinus excelsior; many still covered with Lecanora chlarotera/hybocarpa & Metzgeria furcata. Good to see 3 young Daphne laureola in the woods though Woodland Trust🌳 BSBI: Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland
