I may be terminally cynical, but I still understand what the 'right side of history' means in some instances, such as women's rights, (racial) civil rights, or Gay rights ...

I know. I sympathise, It can be hard at times to occupy a sparse, if not idiosyncratic, region of the 'ideological space'.
But then, there's pride, and comfort of sorts, to be drawn from deriving opinions on any topic from first principles, rather than just following one's tribe.

If history were a guide, the protests against Israel's Gaza operation on US campuses will be effective.
The people who tend to understand this best want the protests to be brutally suppressed. The irony is that a harsh response will only make those protests more effective.

My view is that the average US student protester knows fairly little about the Israeli-Palestine conflict, and their understanding is largely based on soundbites and clichés, but this still remains superior to the understanding of the average social media warrior berating them.

I've been to dark places at times in my life. Today, I feel great, and it seems supported by my 'frequently used' emojis (mostly in DMs).
I'm only half-kidding, but I suspect a thorough analysis of emojis by social media users might be a useful tool to evaluate mental health.

I tend to have respect for activists, essentially whatever cause they're fighting for. I believe humans should get outraged about injustice and unfairness, but the lack of humour and limited understanding of the complexities of the world displayed by many, can be off-putting ...

I'm also not a proselytising 'religious' atheist a la Dawkins. I don't care what people believe in. I just don't get it, but if they want to praise Jupiter, Wotan, Yahweh or whatever divinity, that's fine by me, as long as they don't kill in their God's names and let me in peace.
