Since Battleship New Jersey opened as a museum and memorial in 2001, our volunteers have put in 750,000 hours of work hours. They are an integral part of this organization, and we are thankful for their hard work in bettering our museum spaces.

Congratulations to the USS New Jersey (SSN 796) crew as just this week, the Navy took delivery of the boat from HII Newport News Shipbuilding. We look forward to celebrating their commissioning later this year on September 14!

A common question we get is how do you reach the areas under the keel blocks...in the coming weeks, we will refloat the ship and move her four feet to reach the areas for painting and other maintenance. Stay tuned for our next Dry Dockuseries video on this process!

We will be painting approximately 125,000 square feet of underwater hull, and the crew has made incredible progress on the port side this week! We’re excited to be working with Sherwin Williams Protective & Marine Coatings for the Battleship’s fresh system of coatings. #DryDockNJ

Our shiny new aluminum anodes have arrived! All 1,204 zinc anodes have been removed from the ship, and we’ll be replacing these with aluminum anodes, which are more appropriate for where the ship is moored on the Delaware River. #DryDockNJ

The view from the caisson offers an awesome side-by-side view of the work being done as the hull gets pressure washed. You can see flash rust has formed, but it will be removed prior to her paint job! #DryDockNJ
