What John Healey MP doesn’t mention is that when Labour was last in Government it reduced defence spending from 3.0% to 2.5% of GDP.

Then again, this is the same Kate Osamor who didn’t lose the Labour Party whip when she threatened to hit a journalist with a bat after he quizzed her about her son’s drug dealing conviction.

Kate Osamor’s convicted son still works for her as her Senior Communications Officer.

I find it incredible that people like Natalie Elphicke have spent years as Conservative MPs before deciding that their political beliefs were actually more aligned to Labour.

I imagine Labour’s candidate for Dover, Mike Tapp, is thrilled.

In the short week Monty Panesar spent as a candidate for Workers Party of Britain the media gave him a platform in The Telegraph, a car crash interview on Times Radio, and studio interviews on GB News and Politics Hub with Sophy Ridge.

Most candidates are lucky to have got a mention in their local paper.

Whilst the 1861 Offences Against The Person act clearly needs to be updated a far more pressing issue is enforcing the law regarding the menace of illegally modified e-bikes - that are effectively electric motorbikes - and travel far faster than even the fastest road cyclists.

Labour are keen to portray themselves as the party of defence with John Healey never missing a chance to look the part, but those of us who served under a Labour government know how they treat our Armed Forces.

Healey was a Treasury minister during the Iraq war.

The lack of Armed Forces career offices is not a new phenomenon.

I grew up in Surrey and my nearest Armed Forces career office, and the one I applied to join the Army in in ‘03, was on the Strand, just off Trafalgar Square.

The Armed Forces has never had a high street presence.

To those out actually knocking on doors and speaking to people who don’t spend all their time within the bubble of Westminster/Twitter politics this won’t come as a surprise.

It’s almost as if Twitter opprobrium isn’t real life…

Beautiful morning to get back out on the bike for a quick loop out to Grafham and back before heading out to do some campaigning.

Warm, dry weather and light early mornings makes all the difference when it comes to squeezing a ride in.

Any recommendations for some good local…

Reform UK won just two seats in Havant from the 2,600 up for grabs in these local elections.

Their popularity is fuelled entirely by the coverage afforded to Richard Tice and the spectre of Nigel Farage who, despite all the teasing, isn’t coming back for the election.

Out this morning in a very sunny Hail Weston and Great Staughton speaking to local residents and delivering my 6-point plan leaflet.

Real concern about the proposed closure of Kimbolton Community Fire Station and the proposed East Park Solar Farm.

Thanks for doing this so I didn’t have to!

As a busy minister I’m rarely able to give this level of detail. Ed Conway’s thread about my statement this week had some great questions but you’ve answered many of them comprehensively…..and more succinctly than I would🙏

Huge congratulations to Darryl on his re-election as the Police and Crime Commissioner for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

It was a pleasure to campaign alongside him and on a difficult night for the party it was good to see his track record, supported by our hard fought…
