I have no idea what it is that I am doing wrong. Despite what the SoS for work & pensions says, there are hardly any fully remote roles, even less which are part time. But even with that, I just don't know why I'm not getting anywhere.

I have been looking for work for a couple of years now, primarily in the 3rd sector. It has been utterly destructive to my mental health. Another rejection this week after an interview where they thought I didn't know enough about the subject...which was disability benefits

What is this awful cough bug doing the rounds atm? Child has been hacking away for 2+ weeks now and seems unusually unwell for a childhood bug, especially after a course of antibiotics. Apparently it's everywhere but what is it?

Welfare twitter; if you could make one policy change to improve the current situation of disability benefits, what would it be?

There's nothing quite like the frantic 8am attempt to get through on the phone for an urgent GP appointment. We are so lucky to have an amazing GP practice so once I'd managed to get through they booked an appointment for the 8 year old to be seen this morning

8 yr old has whatever virus is doing the rounds atm, cough, headache fever etc.
Not a big deal...except he is utterly adamant he wants to go to school and nothing has ever made me more convinced he must be proper poorly.

Returned amended draft EHCP to local authority this afternoon. We are at week 42 from initial request. I am hopeful, but not confident, that the final plan should be in place by September which will be 14 months from the initial request.
It is far from an easy process.

'We've become a country where people on ventilators are terrified that that they don't have enough money to keep their electricity supply going... it's disgraceful.'

Remember when the Secretary of State for work & pensions and whole ministerial team said that PIP needed to be brought in because the previous benefit was too hard for people with mental health problems to get?

This is such an important thread and article from Isabel about the damage that trying to work when too unwell can do to both yourself and your colleagues. In all the talk of vouchers & scroungers there's no government interest in the role of employers.

The latest episode of the New Economics podcast explores in more detail the history of the 'scrounger' narrative, why politicians across the spectrum are relying on it now, and what harm it causes disabled people.

This isn't the first government to try and push a divisive narrative about undeserving disabled people on benefits.

The 'scrounger' narrative has long been used to deflect attention from a government's own failings.

Mel Stride says it is an “open question” if people with learning disabilities should receive cash disability benefits - which sounds horribly like the prelude to a pre-election attack scapegoating the country’s most disempowered community

Paul Lewis How to make PIP much more expensive?…. Vouchers and receipts will require an army of bureaucrats to administer them instead of trusting disabled people to buy what they need. The bureaucracy and delays around Access to Work increased 50 fold
