Hugh Possingham @BigCityBirds Indeed, you’ve contributed plenty and continue to.
Our paper, part of Matthew Hall’s PhD, shows that eBird & iNaturalist don’t capture bird behaviour, hence the value of @BigCityBirds 😉

Grey-headed flying-foxes can fly over 300km in a night! They are important pollinators - think of them as a giant bee 🐝 This species is listed as vulnerable to extinction due to population decline and loss of habitat - our latest research The Conversation - Australia + New Zealand theconversation.com/grey-headed-fl…
@BigCityBirds Dr John Martin ANU Fenner School Ecology&EvolutionANU ABC Sydney Science at ANU Australian Citizen Science Association Illawarra Mercury The Sydney Morning Herald Lucy Aplin He was TRYING, but I’m not sure he actually succeeded in opening it, I think possibly more of an opportunist seeing it wasn’t fully closed (Hazelbrook, NSW)
Platypus @BigCityBirds Dr John Martin … She’s come over from the north side and a favorite for many years but she always brings her crew and the biggest one knocks her off the perch. She’s not “dominant” but one of the gentle girl cockatoos. She’s very sweet.
Urban adaptation 😉 Please report Cockatoo bin-opening, including if you haven’t seen this behaviour. The survey takes 1-3 minutes. Your reports help us map this behaviour - thanks!

Sofie! Partner of Watermelon (011 Dr John Martin @BigCityBirds ) she has the make beautiful eyes and a lovely nature. She’s the only one, with Watermelon, who gets a few almonds. Unlike her partner Watermelon, she flies off when she’s had her fill. Watermelon has no stop button
Have you seen our wing-tagged white ibis? Tagged in Adelaide, Brisbane, & Sydney - of course, they move so you may see one anywhere in Australia or PNG - that’d be cool👍👍👍 Report using the @BigCityBirds app or website: spotteron.com/bigcitybirds/i…

I happened to see a piece on breakfast TV, discussing cockatoos and wheelie bins this morning talking about the @BigCityBirds project, but really telling anyone how to get the app and do some #citizenscience #Fail Channel 7 #Sunrise
A young (I think!) Bush Turkey scrabbling around in our hedge in Bella Vista, Sydney a short while ago @BigCityBirds I couldn’t get closer unfortunately
It’s time for our annual cockatoo bin-opening census! If you live in Australia (whether you've seen it or not), please fill in our survey at clevercockies.com/annual-bin-ope…
Your reports help us to continue tracking this fascinating urban innovation

This brush turkey built a mound in friends yard & little turkeys have been popping out for months. Today she went into the yard & got the fright of her life. @BigCityBirds
