This European Parliament report reveals that we are dependent on imports of key commodities to enable consumption of animal-sources foods in excess of what is good for us. Dependency on imported inputs is particularly significant for animal products.

This is great thread from Matthew Hayek. Developing the perspective involved a forensic analysis of two blocks of literature and how they relate to each other. I hope our paper will help a focus on reducing all emissions from all sectors with consideration of all relevant facts.”

This is a well-researched and well-explained description of the nitrogen challenge in the Netherlands. It applies to many other parts of north-western Europe. The wider message is environmental policy challenges don't go away if ignored under the pressure of interest groups.

With Lars-Gernot Otto as coordinator, it is an honour to be the science coordinator of the Legume Generation consortium which had its first in-person meeting at Leibniz IPK last week. We will build on our success so far to boost the breeding of legumes for Europe.
