#OnThisDay in 1957, the 𝙂𝙤𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙣 𝙀𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙚𝙚𝙣 – a group of 18 eminent 🇩🇪 nuclear scientists, including Max Born, Otto Hahn & Werner Heisenberg – published a manifesto against the nuclear armament of West Germany. Plans for this were dropped once & for all in 1958.

#OnThisDay in 1990, the first and only freely elected Volkskammer (parliament) of East Germany convened & elected 𝙎𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝘽𝙚𝙧𝙜𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙣-𝙋𝙤𝙝𝙡 as speaker 🗳️ She was effectively head of state until East Germany joined West Germany on 3 October that year 🫂🇩🇪

If you have the chance to learn German, grab it. It takes languages to another level & makes sense of Danish, Dutch, Swedish & more. It explains English grammar. It's the official language of 6 countries & the 12th most spoken language in the world. It's well worth the challenge.
