How often do you use the triggers and what have you rather than just instruct the Animator to play the relevant state in code?

If you want to be a solo indie with low overheads you really need to know how to program and design games. Some people can do one but not the other. You can hire people for the other roles (art, audio, biz dev, marketing) but ideally you have some of those skills yourself too.

Although I never really contributed anything to it myself, I did enjoy the demo scene back in the day.
