This thunderstorm ⬇️ produced some pretty sizable hail just east of Sandy this afternoon. Looks like 3/4” or penny-size hail. Big thanks to Lisa Busch for sharing (and posting hail the right way πŸ“ 🧊).

The rain finally arrived to the PNW Fri a.m., leading to a wet afternoon. As of 6:15p, PDX has picked up around a third of an inch of rain. Showers will continue through Sat, but will be mixed w/ sun breaks. Sun = dry before another wet system arrives Mon.

Anybody else feel extra fatigued today? πŸ₯± I’m thinking it’s from the poor air quality last couple days. A double coffee day for sure!

After a record-dry 4-month stretch, the rainy season begins Fri. Plan on steady rain in the p.m. & showers overnight. Roads will be slick after months of residue buildup, especially early afternoon. Roads still wet but 'cleaner' for the Fri eve commute.

Aerial few of the Nakia Creek fire (right below the wing) after taking off from PDX today. Unbelievable how bad this smoke is. Much clearer when we flew by Mt. Hood though. Stunning. Anxious to see snow on those ski runs β›·πŸ”

Significant AQI improvement just in the last hour or so for the western edges of the valleys and SW Washington! This snapshot was taken at 5:45 p.m. West Beaverton looked totally normal outside!

Love this! Just took the dogs on a walk and noticed I could actually see clouds and even some slivers of blue sky. Definitely getting better out there!

Smoke will still be pretty thick overhead tomorrow morning, we've seen air quality deteriorate further thanks to nighttime inversion (cooler, denser air + smoke particles get trapped in low-lying areas). You can see in second picture how things seem to get better in the p.m.

Air quality remains in UNHEALTHY category for most of us through Thursday morning. A bit more 'ventilation' tomorrow afternoon (weaker inversion) plus fire smoke starts blowing into Cascades instead of into I-5 corridor. Better air quality should be the result tomorrow afternoon

As expected, poor air quality in parts of the metro area this morning due to fall inversion and trapped fire smoke from . Spots of fog too. AQI is a mix, some of us in GOOD category, yet middle of city is UNHEALTHY. This setup continues tomorrow and Thursday.

In the distance above the city lights on our Skyline Camera you can see the new Nakia Creek wildfire burning northeast of Camas, near Larch Mountain (Washington's Larch Mountain, not Oregon's) FOX 12 Oregon

After another record-warm day at PDX, cooler temps are coming Mon. The return of onshore flow will help clear out the hazy smoke and drop temps back into the mid 70s. Clouds will gradually build in the p.m. High temps will stay in the 70s through Weds.

Portland's high temp of 87 set a new record-warm temp for the day & bumps our 80-degree tally to 6 for the month of Oct, tying the all-time record that we've only hit 3 other times since 1940. It'll be another warm one Sunday, temps expected in low 80s.

Today's metro-area high temps πŸ₯΅ Portland's 87-degree high shatters the previous daily record of 82, set back in 1971. Many other cities (including Troutdale, Hillsboro & Vancouver) also set new records today.
