How NOT to F Up Your Life

I’ve spent decades building a great life. Now, at 53, my #1 priority is:

Don’t F it up.

It may sound obvious but trust me, it’s easier said than done. Whether we’re talking about career, money, health, parenting, or marriage…

Self-sabotage is a huge

Better Things To Do (a way to live & work)

💬“Do you still work here?”

That’s the text message I received from the CEO—my boss—a few months into my first public company CMO job.

It was a culture clash—my unusual work style was a shock to the corporate “butts in seats” system.

This will be a game-changer for Puerto Rico.

PR is '90% as good as Hawaii', much easier to reach for most of the US, and has some interesting tax benefits but it's still largely undeveloped and real estate prices are a small fraction of HI.

It seems like a small thing but X being text-first makes it way more personal.

You’d think pics & video would be more revealing because they’re higher fidelity but they’re performative.

It’s much harder to hide your true nature behind the written word.

I’ve done this simple but powerful exercise with everyone from college students to billionaire business tycoons.

The success rate is 100% at revealing inconsistencies in your life and clarifying the actions you need to take today to have the life you want in the future.

Agree. Statistically, only a tiny percentage of SMB owners take home $500k+ and they have 10X the stress of W-2 workers.

And now with remote work, you can even have most of the lifestyle benefits that business owners enjoy.

Remember this:

Most SMB owners CAN’T land a

This may sound woo-woo but I’ve really begun to appreciate the power of sound, words, light, imagery, touch, and frequencies to program our brains and bodies.

Thoughts are ephemeral—here and then gone forever.

When you write, thoughts are crystalized—they become permanent and more importantly, they start to connect and build on each other.

That’s why it’s so important to have a writing practice. It’s not an exaggeration to say that

♣️ Poker is a great training ground (and metaphor) for business—both endeavors are part art, part science.

I recently saw a stat that blew my mind:

A poker site analyzed over 120M hands and found that…

—50% of profits were made from just 5 of the 169 possible starting hands

September 1989.

A college student decides at the last minute to attend a school event. While waiting in line he musters the courage to say hi to a cute girl. The moment passes and they go their separate ways without even exchanging names.

Fast forward 35 years.

A fun update:

Saw this couple again. They're not on twitter but the woman's mom saw the post and recognized the story.

I don't have a huge following but something crazy like this happens regularly. That's the magic of this app—it's a serendipity machine.

✊Keep twitter weird.

Most people aren’t healthy.

Most people don’t have fulfilling careers.

Most people won’t master a craft.

Most people will never see the world.

⏰This is your wake-up call:

Now more than ever, if you’re following the crowd you’re headed in the wrong direction.
