This is the first video and musical response to and I absolutely adore it.

GARETH! Great work :-)

(We also clearly have similar minds because I’ve written a piece of flash fiction for a grown up manuscript that toys with this theme.)

Poetry for Kids by Carl Burkitt There Was a Knock at the Door

I have heard it
The short series
Of raps against wood
The desire to come in
The need to be seen
I refused
With more
Desire to stay alone
In silence and peace
Without acknowledging
That which hovers
Just outside my door

Poetry for Kids by Carl Burkitt Watching Netflix Monday night
Seated on the floor
(Our sofa had gone walk-about
Just the week before)
Suddenly there was a knock
The sofa lumbered in
Jostled back into its place
'What'd I miss?' it grinned

Poetry for Kids by Carl Burkitt There was a knock at the door.
Who’s there?
Who’s there?
Me, said the knock, it’s me.

Who’s me?
Who’s me?
Oh who can it be?

If you open the door,
Said the knock at the door,
You’ll see
That the knock
Is me!

Poetry for Kids by Carl Burkitt There was a knock
at the door
It said 'I won't come in'
'Why not?' I said.
'I'm only a sound'
it cried mournfully.
Sounds like you better
come in.' I said.

Much love to all the teachers who went back to school today.

If you’re struggling tomorrow morning, here’s an idea…

‘The Teacher’s Day in Bed’ by David Orme.

(Found in The Works, pg263.)

Teachers: There are 626 posts on my blog and you can use the search engine to find items relevant to your areas of study. Lots of poetry, lesson plans, poetry by children etc. Worth a look? May save you some planning time. brian-moses.blogspot.com RTs appreciated.

Poetry for Kids by Carl Burkitt I'm a nervous flyer,
so I always wear parachute pants.
When I wear them I look like an elephant,
especially from behind,
but at least now I can fly with peace of mind.

Poetry for Kids by Carl Burkitt My sofa went for a walk
It wandered away to the sea
“Wowee! You know how to talk”
It said,
Storming away from me.

“I’m sorry!” I call from the garden
“Please! Don’t give me the slip!”
But now I sit on the carpet
While my sofa enjoys fish and chips.
