Who gets to decide if our (anticipatory) grief is disenfranchised or not?

Last night I dreamed of some friends I met when I was 19. They used to ask me to edit manuscripts about engineering and AAC, personal essays for med school, grad school, and awards; and translate consent forms and concert programs.

A reminder to learn, live, and love 'widely.'

If you ponder on the meaning of words as much as I do, or if you've read/watched as many detective and murder mysteries as I have since I was 8, then you know I can't name one 'favorite' fictional detective.

This may be the closest. It's even better than Miss Fisher.

For my gerontology continuum of care class in grad school, I wrote about food insecurity and meals programs through the Older Americans Act and beyond.

Restaurants have long been an important aspect of life to some older adults. These partnerships are a welcoming addition.

This was very difficult for international students in geropsych in my days. I couldn't work at the VA as a non citizen. Most non-VA APA accredited sites wouldn't let interns see older adults due to Medicare.

It's been almost 10 years since I last went to Lake Zorinsky.

The concept of the “business of medicine” is antithetical to my core beliefs on what medicine should be. Marginalized communities deserve healthcare. They deserve resources. They deserve more.

I hate how we discuss 'lifestyle choices' in medicine.

We forget that 'choice' is a function of privilege- so deeply context dependent.

The degree to which our language use is oblivious to issues of #equity is embarrassing (not to mention harmful).

I was supposed to be seeing friends from 4 to 94 back east this week. Between the hurricane, covid surges impacting people around me, and my husband getting sick (not covid) on top of his seizures last month, I am going to the local zoo and safari park alone instead. :(

Everyone's talking about feelings wheel these days.

This one resonates with me a lot as it reminds me of character and role analysis in theatre. Feelings, thoughts, and behaviors are contextual and relational.

My 2 cents: Pay and treat direct care staff better. We build better relationships when there's less turnover.
