🇱🇾 #Libya is exposed to many climate hazards. Rising temperatures will lead to more frequent droughts, storms & desertification. These climate stressors are aggravated by political turmoil & protracted conflict, which, in turn, affects efforts to address climate-related risks.

Livelihoods in Libya have been impacted by conflict, political crisis, economic shocks & climate change. Rising temperatures, droughts, irregular rainfall and water scarcity contribute to increased food insecurity, which in turn, may increase grievances and the risk of conflicts.

Conflict and climate-related disasters impact migration to and forced displacement within #Libya. IDPs, migrants and refugees are particularly vulnerable to climate change, on top of facing other challenges such as human rights violations, social exclusion and lack of protection.

Impacts of #ClimateChange, such as the flooding in #Derna in 2023, have allowed armed groups and parallel governments in #Libya to seek and strengthen political power, by exploiting people’s declining livelihoods for recruitment and/or controlling disaster response efforts.
