Heaven sent!

After telling a lovely audience at the BOSF AGM about seeing my 1st Wheatear on the seat of a tractor!…

…this little beauty dropped almost vertically out the sky onto a gate in front of me!

Moments in Nature cost nothing but boy do they feed the soul 😎

Off the beaten track at Ashlawn Cutting today search and uproot mission to control invasive plants. We thinned scrub in this area 3 years ago and there's a nice Elm understory with lots of Violets. Removed Hybrid Bluebell and Fringcups. Ramsons self set and can stay!!

Another big haul of rubbish at our monthly litter pick today! A real shame it's needed, but we're so grateful for the support to tidy up our streets. A big thanks also to Dean and the team from Midgard of JRL Group for their help :). We next meet on Sat 11th May at 11am

Big thanks also to Dean at Midgard and JRL Group for taking the time to put up this great community notice board and for supporting local community groups. The site visit was great too - there'll be some killer views when Beorma Quarter is finished!

Roping in Matt Hill to help with some Urban Riverfly sampling along the Haunch Brook (@BillesleyCommon ) and River Cole in Trittiford Park this afternoon. Some blue winged olive mayflies (Seratella ignita) in the Cole - a sign of good water quality.

Inspired by the post below, re bird song, I recorded my regular dog walk this morning in

We would be much the worse off if we continue to lose song 🎶 birds. The sound of birds is important to our mental health, it encourages hopefulness.

The Knapp & Papermill pond - one year later!
It's fantastic to see the pond looking so good after the restoration works last year. Some smooth and great-crested newts have been spotted, native plants are emerging and blackcaps and chiffchaffs are singing from the trees😊

After leaving Sutton Park at the end of the breeding season last year, ZAk has returned to his territory once again in the park. Again, he's paired up with an unringed female. Great photos from Michael Hughes clearly showing the white letters on his darvic leg ring.

TimInBrum Jane Findlay Anne Team4Nature Chris Millward Jnr I feel the same about suddenly hearing that drumming sound echoing through woodland. I talked to a trainee GP recently about bird song and she asked if the sound of 'seagulls' making her think of being at the sea side counted. Perhaps we need to say the sight and sounds of birds.
