When land purchase bills target individuals who are Chinese immigrants, they often target those outside their intended audience. These racist policies severely restrict economic opportunities and exacerbate discrimination against Asian communities. @apiavote @stopaapihate

Some solutions related to land purchases by PRC entities close to sensitive and military sites have harmful effects on the Asian American community. The CCP could easily use TikTok to conduct foreign influence and espionage operations against the U.S. We have a national security interest in preventing that from happening.

If this bill passes, TikTok could continue operating as usual under an American or allied company.

Having access to the data of 170 million Americans via TikTok is a valuable strategic asset for any foreign adversary, including the Chinese Communist Party. In the interest of national security, this bill seeks to require that apps are owned by American or allied companies.

TikTok is a platform that 170 million Americans use to express themselves. They should be free to do so while having confidence that their personal information is protected from malicious foreign governments. That is what the bill I co-led seeks to do.
