You are either trained or untrained. There is no in-between & it will all manifest itself when it matters. You may be more talented than your peers, but when that evens out, it will be obvious who outworks whom. If others less talented than you outwork you, they will outplay you!

As a coach, it’s wonderful to see athletes I’ve coached, trained or helped achieve success in sports or in life. Not because I helped them, but because I was fortunate enough to watch them grow, change, struggle, work, learn & achieve. Those are the things that make it worth it!

If a person is truly committed to something, they won't stop for anything/anyone. Either you support them or they make it without you. Either way, it's going to happen! When you realize how powerful the mind is, it changes things. Nothing influences us more than our own thoughts!

Outworking everyone is great, but don't forget to focus on the virtues that people will speak about long after you’re gone. It’s more than your resume; it’s your character. Be a person known for giving, helping, inspiring, encouraging, respecting, mentoring & keeping your word!

One of sports’ most valuable lessons: hard work doesn’t always result in the desired outcome. Even if you put in the time & effort to have earned it, “earned” is more often performance & production driven. Keep working. You not only have to do it, but you also have to do it well!

Successful people make a lot of mistakes. They learn from them & keep trying until they get it right. They’re DOING while you’re still WAITING. Don’t ever be afraid to make mistakes. The only way to build grit, character & toughness is to try it, make adjustments & try it again!

Many players work according to their feelings. If they are a little tired, sore or just don’t feel like it, they find excuses to skip it. The truly committed work based on principles! Excuses aren’t part of their vocabulary. When you’re fueled by passion you rarely make excuses!
