Great question! Hundreds come from the English tradition of dividing land, and #Delaware is the only state that still maintains them! It’s debated as to what it meant though… some say every 100 families or farms, or every 100 men for a militia. #FirstStatepride #AskAnArchivist
Shew, that was fun! Thanks to all who participated in #AskAnArchivist Day!
If you have any more, email us anytime at [email protected]. Our Research Room Staff are ready for your questions!
..also going to take this opportunity to ask my fellow Soc Amer Archivists a very important question: What is the title of your archives memoir? Mine is: WHO 👏DID👏THIS?! #AskAnArchivistDay
I echo Delaware Public Archives's advice about keeping things out of basements, attics, garages! If you can, invest in some acid/lignin free storage materials. Family historians are the experts on their papers, & can provide personal context & identification that archivists can't.

Please don’t store your records in the basement or attic! Keep them (if possible) in cooler, dry places, and label everything you can! #AskAnArchivist
DYK Delaware Public Archives has nearly 25,000 cubic feet of onsite space for records from the public, state government, municipalities, and school districts?!
