There’s a trickle of aid going into Gaza right now, as the population faces imminent famine. There needs to be a deluge. For every hour that the war goes on, the desperate need increases.

I welcome this call for an independent review. All attacks on aid workers - including the attack on the IRC - International Rescue Committee and Medical Aid for Palestinians team - must be independently investigated. 95% of the over 200 aid workers killed by Israel are Palestinian.

President Biden's call for an immediate ceasefire is welcome. But actions are what matter for civilians facing death and starvation. The US must use all available leverage to achieve a ceasefire, the release of hostages, and the immediate expansion of aid crossings by land.

IRC grieves with World Central Kitchen at the senseless loss of 7 aid workers. Their protection is a legal and moral right for civilians and the aid workers there to help them. The war in Gaza has cost too many lives. We call not just for safety and aid flows but for a sustained ceasefire.

#UNSC Resolution 2728 must be implemented immediately, and all council members must work for a sustained ceasefire. Efforts must not delay the beyond-urgent need for aid delivery, including removal of obstacles to aid across Gaza and use of all routes and border crossings.

The adoption of Resolution 2728 by the UN Security Council today, demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza for the duration of Ramadan and the unconditional release of hostages, is an important step after too many failed votes.

The situation at Gaza's hospitals is unimaginable. Staff with IRC - International Rescue Committee, Medical Aid for Palestinians and The PCRF (Palestine Children's Relief Fund) are reporting horrific scenes of patients dying from infections with evidence of serious malnutrition.
