Global #seaweed forests export 56 million tonnes of carbon (15% of their production) to the deep ocean annually. These biodiverse #blueforests are overlooked in the global ocean #carbon budget. We provide national estimates of this C #sink rdcu.be/dIKup Nature Geoscience
Groundbreaking study by international team of researchers, including Prof Ana M Queiros, has revealed seaweed forests to be significant contributors to oceanic carbon storage. Read more at pml.ac.uk/News/Seaweed-f…

Was fantastic to (re)connect with Ben Harvey at the wonderful Shimoda research station in Japan 🇯🇵. Lots of interesting ideas for collaboration on kelp, warming and experimental field ecology. Also Japanese people/food/trains/countryside are just amazing. 🤩 🇯🇵 ❤️ 🌊 🌱 🤓 📈
Bit later than planned, but finally got the dive season properly underway: loggers retrieved/replaced, kelp counted and samples collected. 11 deg C water temp, 3-4 m viz, very much looking forward to summer arriving!!! Great to see this work published - amazing baseline on community structure and diversity supported by the climate change winner (in UK at least) Saccorhiza polyschides AKA Furbellows. Chapeau to Nora Salland for remarkable field/lab effort
Happy to discuss project ideas with ECRs who are keen to work on climate change, marine heatwaves, kelp forest ecology or applied seaweed research within my team MBA - Marine Biological Association 🌊🌱🤓🤿📈

Despite pretty awful sea state and visibility, was great to get the 2024 MBA scientific diving season up and running with some training/refresher dives. Superb support from Tritonia - Providing Underwater Clarity and RV MBA Sepia as always. Now we just need some settled weather and decent viz 🌞🦐🌱🌊🤞🤞🤞
