James Ellsworth PhD This is manifestly not true. I am willing to accept that teacher telling and lecturing may have been dominant for years, but this is not Direct Instruction, as defined by Engelmann.

Really pleased Oliver has posted this. Very useful advice on how to avoid conflating icons with dual coding

ICONS
1 | they needn't be as large, prominent as I see on teacher docs
2 | they needn't be there at all if they don't convey easily identified meaning.
3 | substitute a fang of icons with a well-crafted 'stand-first' sentence. Defined as a 'pithy pitch' in editorial design.

David Didau We're digging into just this - how can we get more teachers (especially women) to stay in the classroom and is it possible to entice some who have left back? Appreciate any retweets so we can reach as many women as possible - twitter.com/mtptproject/st…

If a child has a phone confiscated, we give them a Nokia for the duration of the confiscation.

Laura McInerney Very interesting idea - can imagine a flood of high quality grads into the profession. I presume it's totally unfeasible in terms of cost nationally?

2010 is something of a mid point for me. I’d been teaching for 11 years and had got pretty good at playing the game. In 2012 I started writing The Perfect Ofsted English Lesson which stands as a permanent testament to where we all were back then. Sad times.

One of the most experienced, informed voices on behaviour. Full of sound advice e.g. we’re past the pandemic, don’t victimise children by treating them as if they can’t help their behaviour now. They can and it’s healthy to hold them to account. tes.com/magazine/teach…

Revising with Y11? Here is a suggested approach, one I have used successfully for some time. Not saying it's the only approach, or the right one. Do what works for you, of course but...if you want a direction...
