At around 4am today, hundreds of Columbia University students descended on the main lawn and launched the Gaza Solidarity Encampment.

Nearly 60 tents were erected in minutes, with plans to remain until the school divests from Israel’s genocide of Palestine.

I’ve also been accompanying students to these hearings. Our students while under this enormous pressure have been articulate and poised and breathtakingly Impressive. What’s happening to them makes me sick but how they’re standing up for themselves makes me love them even more.

Jodi Dean, a tenured professor at Hobart and William Smith College, has been suspended from teaching because of a political opinion she posted. Tis is an obvious and blatant violation of the most basic principles of academic freedom.

Boooo got denied the New York Fed's secret history of its 2008-2009 crisis response (not surprised). They did at least confirm that both volumes were completed.

There’s a petition circulating urging USC to reconsider and reinstate Asna’s commencement speech. We must stand with her. Please sign and share widely.

So at USC cops decide what speech is allowed?! According to the Los Angeles Times, Dr. Erroll G. Southers —president of LA’s Board of Police Commissioners, law and order enthusiast and staunch LAPD apologist—“was part of the decision” to cancel valedictorian Asna Tabassum’s commencement speech.

They’ll tell you to be a good immigrant. Put your head down, work hard. So you do. You make it, you are Valedictorian at a great school. Turns out, your hard work can only get you so far, because you’re still Muslim and brown and no amount of work can change that. Shame on USC.

the things to be said about Jane don't fit in a tweet but I'll just say that I love her and so do so many others. a model, a mentor, an inspiration, and a blast (which matters too), and so important for women in the labor movement. no bullshit, a fighter for the working class

Faith Ringgold, 1938-2024

The United States of Attica, 1972. My fourth grade teacher got me a book of her work and was fundamental in seeing and setting me on the path of pursuing visual art. Her work, especially for children, unlocks a sense of possibility, that they can do it.
