At around 4am today, hundreds of Columbia University students descended on the main lawn and launched the Gaza Solidarity Encampment.

Nearly 60 tents were erected in minutes, with plans to remain until the school divests from Israel’s genocide of Palestine.

I’ve also been accompanying students to these hearings. Our students while under this enormous pressure have been articulate and poised and breathtakingly Impressive. What’s happening to them makes me sick but how they’re standing up for themselves makes me love them even more.

Jodi Dean, a tenured professor at Hobart and William Smith College, has been suspended from teaching because of a political opinion she posted. Tis is an obvious and blatant violation of the most basic principles of academic freedom.

They’ll tell you to be a good immigrant. Put your head down, work hard. So you do. You make it, you are Valedictorian at a great school. Turns out, your hard work can only get you so far, because you’re still Muslim and brown and no amount of work can change that. Shame on USC.
