Diverse Alzheimers Really good question. Talking about it, especially in public forums, breaks down the barriers to understanding, and that's one important key to reducing stigma.

Diverse Alzheimers I speak about Dementia because I know how having the disease feels and what it does to me daily, and when originally diagnosed I felt so alone.
I don't want other people to feel alone or helpless so started my support group and talk about my Dementia openly.

Diverse Alzheimers In a country as big as Australia this postcode lottery happens too.
Especially for people like me outside of major metropolitan areas.
Living in a rural area can add an additional 12-18 months to get a Dementia diagnosis.
Services and support aren't as easily accessed.

Diverse Alzheimers In Australia it can take 3 to 3.5yrs to get a Young Onset Dementia diagnosis, add in the 12-18 months extra when you live in a rural area, and diagnosis times can take many yrs.

All that is left is to say thank you so much for joining and see you next week. One thing we'll chat about, albeit briefly, is the future especially as more people are leaving the space. Rest well.

You know...wonderful connections and friendships can happen talking about dementia and have seen it here. From here, honoured/privilged to note so much has grown so to speak.

Talking about dementia keeps it in the spotlight and normalises it and this is so true - especially where there is that experience of moving from 'you don't talk about that' from some people who now talk and even advocate about it.
