Local Housing Allowance rates, which have remained frozen since 2020, must urgently be raised in line with inflation. Due to their lower levels of income & savings, women are more likely to struggle with housing affordability, particularly on their own. theguardian.com/society/2023/j…

Very insightful 🧵on the shortfall that low-income private renters are facing between the Housing benefits they can claim & their actual rents. This shortfall is a substantial source of financial hardship for women- who make up 60% of adults in households claiming housing benefit

🟪48% of single adults living with children, the majority of which are women, are experiencing food insecurity

👉Women are more likely to experience food insecurity because of their greater caring responsibilities, which lead to lower earnings, and increased risk of poverty

🟪57% of those in food insecurity are women. Black and minority ethnic women make up 27% of those in food insecurity compared to 14% of white women

👉 The intersection of inequalities impacts women on low incomes, Black and minority ethnic, & disabled women
