His (wilful and calculated) denial and arrogance on this issue is something to behold - but refreshing to see the audience clearly seeing through it and mocking him...

New figures from ACEA have the UK selling the highest volume of BEVs in the first quarter of 2024 in Europe.

So much for EV demand stalling.

There were over 84,000 BEVs sold in Q1, a 10% increase on Q1 2023 and sales were higher than in France and Germany.

Good point. I've been doing work in this space quietly over the past 6 months. I'm looking for people with the passion and expertise who want to work with me on this to make change, as quickly as we possibly can.

A fantastic - and fascinating - new interactive resource published for the start of the world's largest-ever election.

Great work by my colleague Aruna Chandrasekhar to pull all this info out of the Indian political manifestos...

Exemption India from the CBAM would render the CBAM largely pointless and would absolutely poison efforts to link our scheme to other comparable initiatives. I hope the Government is strong enough to resist.

This terrifying new study from Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research PIK shows the world is 'committed' to losing 19% of average incomes by 2050, as a result of climate change

Crucially though, it says we can avoid far higher losses by 2100 if we take strong climate action

What to read next? 🤔

We recommend Carbon Brief's Q&A on climate change & human migration. Using our data, it highlights extreme weather events like floods & storms as the main trigger for disaster displacement.

The UK’s emissions are now 53% below 1990 levels, while GDP has grown by 82% - don't anyone try to tell me decoupling emissions from the economy is impossible. And no, it's not because of imports: the collapse of primary industry was largely over by 2000.

It will never cease to be strange to me that building our energy systems on a commodity whose key producers are in a region that's a war-torn powderkeg gets framed as 'energy security'

Nice to see Liz Truss confirming Esther Webber and my reporting from 2021 that she opposed the UK's hosting of COP26 — vigorously denied by the gvmt at the time.

One other cabinet member joined her rebellion: Rishi Sunak.

Lots of people asking about Scotland's climate targets today (understandably).

We won't comment before we see what the Scottish Government is planning, but our position on the 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿2030 target is already very clear. It was in two key bits of advice, published already.

As millions step out in the searing heat to vote starting Friday, where's climate in India's election manifestos? Some say voters and netas don't really care, but cheaper electricity and corruption-free coal have been major poll planks. In 2024, climate gets a bigger shoutout 👇

The removal of Scotland’s 2030 target, announced by the Scottish Government today, is deeply disappointing.

We are reassured that the Net Zero target remains in place but….. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotla…
