For #HillfortsWednesday we have this lovely aerial photograph of Warton Crag in #Lancashire . Read our survey report to find out if we think it really is an Iron Age hillfort or not!😉 historicengland.org.uk/research/resul…

It’s always gives me a buzz when you are able to put your hand into the prints of the maker of pottery 1900 years ago. This is fragment of amphora which probably came from southern Spain #pottery #archaeology #Vindolanda
#Hillfortswednesday Pretty sure that the tree-lined area in the centre is Bury Hill Fort, just South of Winterbourne in #Gloucestershire ; the photo was taken (on Sunday 5th May) looking East from Hambrook Common. The houses on the right are the hamlet of Moorend (I think).
The univallate Iron Age hillfort of the Trundle sits atop St Roche’s Hill in the The Goodwood Estate #WestSussex
The ramparts survive to nearly 2m and from the top there are epic views across Chichester, the coastal plain and South Downs National Park
It's simply magnificent

This week we've been up St Roche’s Hill #WestSussex looking at the Iron Age hillfort and Early Neolithic Causewayed Enclosure of *the Trundle*, here both looking utterly glorious in an air photo © David R Abram 🤩
