Curious about how we spent the past few summers with the Volcano-Tectonic Lab Joël Ruch of Genève?
Check it out here :)

Eruption fissure still ~4km long but effusion rate has decreased, as expected. Fissure end 3km north of Grindavik but lava not going towards it or the power plant. So far, eruption is as non-threatening as could have been hoped for. Images Veðurstofa Íslands / Icelandic Met Office Almannavarnir

An eruption has started on the Reykjanes peninsula.
The eruption is located about 3 km north of Grindavik. The eruption began at 22.17 following the earthquake swarm that started around 21:00. en.vedur.is/about-imo/news…

The latest Sentinel-1 interferogram has a wide range and large magnitude of deformation. The deformation in the decoherence area may be over 1 meter.

#1 Just back from three weeks fieldwork at Askja volcano in Iceland! Monitoring ground deformation and landslides all year long using time lapse cameras and corner reflectors for InSAR. Hard but great work with a 5 stars team :)! Faculty of Science | UNIGE Swiss National Science Foundation

InSAR data (thanks Adriano Nobile) of the first part of the Iceland intrusion (until 6 July) shows a linear deformation signal between Keilir & Litli-Hrútur (from arrow), indicating movement of a fracture that the magma appears to have used as pathway to the surface yesterday

Walking on an active oceanic crust in Iceland a few weeks ago to a 130 millions year old fossil oceanic crust in the Alps today (piémontais ocean) at 2700m asl, quite a weird feeling ;)! Both are basalts! Joël Ruch Faculty of Science | UNIGE

Happened to be on the wrong side to see the ongoing eruption, but on the right side to view an older one ;-) Plus, one last glimpse to Grindavík, a perfect hometown for the past three weeks.
