Humanitarian action is adapting to the climate crisis. We have no choice.

Thank you EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid 🇪🇺 for organizing the Environment & Emergencies Forum #EEF2023 with UNEP/OCHA Joint Environment Unit. I am encouraged by our shared commitment with UN Environment Programme to address environmental challenges in emergencies.

We cannot negotiate with nature. The toll of the climate crisis is being felt across the world, through increasing floods, droughts or wildfires.

This is a wake-up call that we cannot ignore. We need to work together to build a more resilient future for all. #EEF2023

From Somalia to Bangladesh, climate change is already hugely taking lives & livelihoods in humanitarian crises and forcing more people from home. Vital that we humanitarians respond to needs created by climate change and do all we can to not contribute to global warming.

UNEP/OCHA Joint Environment Unit #EEF2023

“The climate crisis is here. It is a humanitarian crisis and catastrophe, where the vulnerable become more vulnerable.

We must make sure we act today and don’t wait until tomorrow.” - Edem Wosornu from UN Humanitarian at #CPForum ’s session on climate-related disaster response.

About 250,000 people might have been impacted by #TCJudy and #TCKevin in Vanuatu, a tragic consequence of the island’s vulnerability to climate disasters.

Our teams, through UN OCHA Asia Pacific, are supporting the Government-led response to assist affected communities.

A super solution for the #ClimateCrisis ? Peatlands.

Peatlands cover only 3% of the Earth's surface but they store twice as much carbon as all the world's forests combined.

Urgent action is needed to conserve these carbon sinks.
