"New genes linked to autism have been identified, with copy number variations (CNVs) conferring a substantial relative risk. More than 200 CNVs have been linked to autism. These CNVs primarily arise as de novo mutations during maternal meiosis, with a proportion representing 1/4

inherited germline mutations. An important CNV is 16p11.2. This region underwent positive selection during human evolution from nonhuman primates, leading to changes in brain size & shape. 16p11.2 deletions increase the risk of autism or developmental delay by 38.7-fold, 2/4

Really saddened to hear about Sir David Goldberg’s death earlier today. A giant of psychiatry has gone. His legacy in primary care psychiatry and social psychiatry will live forever. My thoughts are with his family and friends. RIP David, will miss you.🙏🏼
